A Basic search is offered when you book the registration with us.

With regard to trademark search, we propose two options:

1°) A Basic trademark search identifies identical terms/slogans in whole or in part. For example, the results of a search for the term “telecommunications” will include “IT internet and telecommunications” and others.

2°) An Extensive search provides an in-depth analysis, and includes a maximum of terms and expressions which could lead to a risk of confusion. For example, for the trademark “farmatom”, an extensive search will be conducted for the terms “pharma”, “farma”, “forma”, etc.

A full clearance report written by an expert lawyer will be prepared for the client.

The clearance report includes the following elements:

• a description of the mark that was the subject of the search;

• a description of the method of the search including the databases that were checked;

• a list of potentially conflicting marks;

• a discussion of potentially conflicting marks;

• advice with regard to availability of the mark for registration;

• recommendations for changes or further investigation.

Some law firms offer a free search in combination with trademark registration. These firms typically rely only on automated tools and software, and no intellectual work is performed. All our searches are conducted by fully qualified lawyers who perform risk analysis in addition to the standard service.

This work is of the utmost importance because even if your mark is successfully registered, it is possible that counterfeiting or infringement of IP rights may arise at a later stage. Low cost automated searches do not analyse this risk and as such cannot be trusted.
